About Me:
The focus of my life is on the evolution of consciousness. By that I mean one thing: working together with others to forge the next step for humanity. This step, in a phrase, is the creation of the new collective, the higher 'we', in which individuals work together in Freedom to create a new culture beyond ego. This an ambitious project, to say the least! And it's radically idealistic, strikingly rational, very real and as urgent as it is ultimately fulfilling. That's why I am a student of spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen .
So here's a bit more about me. It's not particularly interesting, but what is fascinating is that my story is all but identical to the stories of many people who want to change the world.
The identical plot-line is this: for so many of us, after setting about a career to transform culture, the clouds part and it becomes clear that if the world is going to evolve for the better, all the greatest effort made will ultimately be ineffective if human beings do not evolve beyond our current stage of development. This stage is characterized by narcissism, self-concern, and the fragmented consciousness that makes it possible to mess up an entire planet.
In my own case, in the 80's and early 90's I jumped deep into the global effort to protect tropical forests. I ended up in Northern Guatemala when the clouds parted for me: it suddenly became obvious that money, political clout, and even a tremendously committed group of people were not enough to secure the future of these ecosystems. Despite access to tremendous resources, and amidst death threats, staggering bureaucracy, and the the tremendous inertia of a culture emerging from 20 years of civil war, the main obstacle to getting the job done came from competing interests among other sister social welfare and environmental organizations – my friends, peers and colleagues. Yes, the enemy is us – or more accurately, to realize our inner utopic visions which we know are possible, we have to evolve beyond our seperate egos.
Of course, dealing with ego is a great theory, and always easier if it's attached to somebody else, but if the world is really, truly going to be radically different, then I knew I had to deal with mine. So my path logically traversed into the terrain of spiritual evolution. All this has led to an engagement with Life that is thrilling beyond words, ultimately challenging, and makes perfect, absolute and liberating sense of why we are here.
